How Many Hats Did You Wear This Week?

A small percentage of very successful authors have "people" to take care of all the pesky little details of the business of writing.

The rest of us wear all the hats necessary to keep the firm of Me, Myself, & I running smoothly.

That means it's our job to write, proof, and submit manuscripts. We can't just delegate the task of keeping track of where those manuscripts are submitted and where they should go if they get rejected.

We review the contracts, sign, and return them. We deposit the checks when they arrive and pursue payment when those checks don't come.

This has been one of those weeks when I've juggled too many "hats" and can't help but wonder what it would be like to have "people" to expertly handle unpleasant tasks.

May the Muse be kind!!

The one hat I hate to put on is the "promoter" hat. It doesn't fit very well, so I don't wear it very well. *sigh*

Hi Susanne,

I wear a lot of hats too, though these days its to keep the sun off my face. I also juggle all aspects of the writing life with a day job and a family. I dream of being successful enough to have a person to tend to my correspondence and other matters.

Denise -

Think we all have a bit of a hard time with that promotion hat ... some of us are uncomfortable tooting our own horn and others hate to use writing time for something that doesn't always produce tangible results.

Maggie -

WHEN (not if) you get to the point where you can afford a person to tend to correspondence and other matters, do hope that person juggles responsibilities at least half as well as you do!
